Blush

Today I did a shoot that actually didn’t require very much planning at all. My friend Ashlee, who also did the makeup for the shoot had just recently colored her hair pink!! Pink is by far my most favorite color so when I saw her hair I just had to do something with it. I knew that I just wanted a few head shots so I decided that  the arms would need some sort of detail on them so I made some long cuffs. I made them from lace with ruffled trimming. The backs where laced up like a corset and each side had pink flowers attached to match the hair. After Ash had completed the makeup I got to work on the hair…lots of teasing and hairspray was need to keep the volume but I also had to make sure it looked light and wispy. The set up was simple, a vintage sheet for the backdrop,Two large white reflectors and one off camera light to add a bit of fill. 20 minutes and it was a wrap. I’m really pleased with the outcome and it was fun to play with such beautiful colors.

Wild Rose’s| Tamborine Mountain portrait session

Lately I have been slightly obsessed with vintage patterns, especially the 1950s.It also seems that I have gotten my sewing bug back. Which is good, because it comes in quite handy for shoots like my most recent shoot with Jade and Celine. I made Jade a very feminine set in tones of peaches and cream. The Bustier is made from vintage material with crochet detailing and a lace up back. The skirt is made from crepe Chiffon with lace insertion panels and side split. The top of the skirt is finished off with elasticated lace for a comfortable fit. For Celine I made a vintage floral bustier with a blue polka dot bow in the front. The back secures with two self covered gingham buttons. Her skirt is made from multiple layers of lace with a” v “shaped waistline and a side zip closure. I worked with a local make up artist, Bronte Moore who listened very carefully to my requests and did a stunning job! I styled both of the girls hair for the shoot. I did Jades hair in three separate fish bone braids with blossom flowers pinned throughout. I created some height in Celine’s hair then put a large side twist on each side of her head. The rest of the hair was curled with the flat iron then I pulled it to the side. The location for the shoot was near the mountain, I had been looking at the paddock for a while and then approached the farmer to get permission for the shoot. I had a great assistant in Marianne who held my lights and bounce boards. Lighting consisted of two large white boards to reflect the natural light and I also used my off camera lighting with a shoot through umbrella. About half of the images where taken with the Nikon 70-200  2.8 and the other half with my Nikon 50 – 1.4. Marianne has taken ALOT of behind the scenes footage which I plan to use in a behind the scenes video montage….Stay tuned    x
